The Assam government on Tuesday came in for sharp criticism from the Opposition parties for failing to solve border dispute which is continuing for the last several years. The Opposition members asked the government to clarify its stand on the encroachment by Bangladesh on the soil of Assam. They criticised that the government for remaining silent while Bangladesh has already occupied an area of 499.3 acres of land. Not only that the opposition parties lambasted the government for unabetted encroachment by the neighbouring Arunachal Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya. Caught in this debate, revenue minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman said steps are on for an amicable solution to the Indo-Bangla border row. He informed the House that a joint committee of foreign secretaries of both the countries is looking into the border dispute. Dr Barman further informed that House the Assam Government also is talking to its neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland in this regard. The raucous came to an end on Tuesday when Dr Barman informed the House that he would give a statement in the regard on Wednesday.
