We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

ULFA Killed while tring to Ambush Army Convoy

Tinsukia: Army operating in Tinsukia district escaped a major bid when suspected ULFA militants tried to blow up a powerful grenade on a convoy but missed the target narrowly. Army’s 6 Jammu Kashmir Rifle’s troops were on petrol when this incident occurred. The incident occurred near Bordubi Tea Estate under Domdooma police station in Tinsukia District at 11:30PM on Thursday. Later when Army retaliated one ULFA militant was killed on the spot The deceased ULFA cadre was identified as Kumud Borah alias Jayant Moran alias Gandia of Nalani village in Tinsukia. Army also recovered a grenade from the slain militant.

SULFA Killed by ULFA at 9.30 PM on Wednesday

Doomdooma : Suspected ULFA militants killed a SULFA man Pranab Moran at Kerani Gaon near Kardoiguri, under Domdooma police station at 9.30 PM on Wednesday according to police sources. A group of two to three youths came to the grocery shop owned by Pranab just as he was about to sleep. The youths knocked on the door and asked for a packet of bread. When he opened the door to give them the packet they fired on him and flew away. Military personal stationed nearby rushed to the spot after they heard firing and brought him to the local hospital. But he died on the way. Local people suspect that ULFA killed him suspecting him to be an army spy.Bandan Bharadwaj

8 Hindi speaking people killed in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday

Diphu : Heavily armed militants belonging to Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), on Wednesday night, gunned down at least 9 persons all Bihari migrant workers in Karbi Anglong. According to police there were 5 women among those killed.Three others were seriously wounded in this attack. DIG Central range Dr. L R. Bishnoi said that at least 15 people are still missing as hundreds of villagers fled away to neighboring forests after the incident to save their lives. Blast at Hengerabari, Guwahati on Wednesday

Guwahati : There has been a bomb blast at Hengerabari near Dispur capital complex at 3.25 PM on Wednesday.Police say that three persons have been injured in this blast. The bomb was planted on a Rickshaw when it exploded. Police have rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the Hospital. Police suspects the bomb to be a Programmed Timer Device( PTD).

Union Bank to open Rural Development Self Employment Institute in Barpeta

Barpeta : Union Bank of India is planning to open Rural Development & Self Employment Institute (RUDSETI) in Barpeta District of Assam, where young entrepreneurs will be imparted training on various activities for stating their own venture with the help of financial assistance from Banks. Three killed by extremists in Cachar

Lakhipur ( Cachar ) : Suspected Dimasa militants had killed three innocent civilians at Hari Nagar under Lakhipur police station in Cachar district on Tuesday evening. According to the police a group of 12/13 armed youths had entered the Bazaar at about 8.30 PM and opened fire indiscriminately. Three people were killed and several others were injured. Motives of the killings are not known yet. Police suspect that the dreaded Black Widow and NSCN (IM) are jointly behind this killing. Identities of the killed are yet to be ascertained

Assam State Boxers, Kalpana and Pranamika get award for their outstanding performances

Guwahati : Two star boxers of the state Kalpana Choudury and Pranamika Bora had been awarded cash incentive by the central government for their magnificent performance in the international meets. Kalpana had been awarded Rs Three lakhs for her bronze winning effort in the world boxing championship held in Moscow in 2005 while Pranamika Bora received Rs Two Lakhs for her silver medal that she won in the Asian Boxing Championship held at Taiwan in the same year.

Assam Atheletic Association (AAA) to felicitate award winners

Guwahati : The Assam Athletic Association (AAA) would felicitate its medal winning athletes of the recently concluded 33rd National Games and Asian Grand Prix Athletics Championship. The decision was taken in the governing body meeting of the association held recently in the city. The association would also felicitate two technical officials, who had been selected as officials for the forthcoming Commonwealth Championship, in the same function. Sonia assesses flood situation in Assam

Guwahati : All India Congress Committee President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday made an aerial survey of the flood situation of Assam. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, and senior congress leaders Chandan Bagchi and Digvijay Singh accompanied her.
