We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Militants attack NCHAC EM's residence

An Executive Member of the North Cachar Hill Autonomous escaped bid on his life on Tuesday evening while a group of armed miscreants sprayed several rounds of bullets at his official residence housed in Haflong town. AKRSU strike still on; govt yet to address

Truck smashed in Orang during bandh

The picketers of the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam has smashed a truck on the National Highway No 52 in Orang in Darrang district during the bandh hour early morning on Sunday. Some more stray incidents are are being reported. The Adivasi students are giving a 12 hour bandh call in protest government's failure in the Beltola violence and the non receipt of schedule tribe status.

Koch, tea tribes and Muttocks to boycott talk with Kyndiah

Three striking communities have rejected Union minister P R Kyndiah's offer for talks on December 18 in New Dehi saying it is only to buy more time to let the panchayat poll hold.After the Koch Rajbanshis, the Muttocks and All Adivasi Students Association of Assam have rejected the offer. The Koch Rajbanshis have already made it plain and simple that they are not interested for ST status and instead vowed to seek separate Kamatapur.The tea tribe students and the Muttocks too rejected it saying it is a delaying tactic being taken by the Centre in the instance of the Assam government in the run up to the panchayat polls. Cong politicizing current situation: BJP

The Assam BJP leaders have said only the Congress party was politicizing the current situation in the state and not the other parties. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, senior BJP leader Barki Prasad Telenga reacted sharply to the recent allegation of a senior minister that BJP was trying to create a Beltola-like situation only for political mileage. Telenga has said the BJP has exploited the present situation in Assam and alleged the ruling party was violating the model code of conduct in the run up to the panchayat elections.

Govt claim stands exposed: Mahanta

The Assam government’s repeated denial of the presence of fundamentalist forces in the state has proved a wrong one with the police arresting an ISI kingpin in the city on Saturday. Padma Hazarika shifted to Delhi

The injured Asom Gana Parishad legislator from Sootea Padma Hazarika has been flown to the Appollo Hospital in New Delhi for better treatment. Earlier on Saturday, he was brought to the city and was admitted to the Dispur Hospital. Mr Hazarika was attacked near his residence on Thursday midnight in Sootea by some unidentified miscreants. The Assam Government denies involvement of any militant outfit in it and has ordered a fast track probe into it. The regional party is demanding the immediate dismissal of the government. Meanwhile, the injured MLA has said the miscreants were known to him. But he said he would disclose their names only after the probe is completed.

Attack on Padma Hazarika not militant bid: Himanta

No militant outfit was behind the recent bid on life of AGP MLA Padma Hazarika. But the Assam government has ordered a speedy investigation to apprehend the culprits involved in it. Disclosing this before a private TV news channel, Assam government spokesperson Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the intelligence agencies have confirmed that the bid on life of Padma Hazarika was not a handiwork of any militant outfit. Dr Sarma further denied it a politically motivated attempt on Padma Hazarika. The All Assam Koch Rajbanshi Students Union has withdrawn the proposed 1000 hour Kamatapur bandh from Monday following the permission they received for staging hunger strike in the city.
