144 CrPC promulgated

The Kokrajhar and Chirang district magistrates promulgated today an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting movement of any persons, materials, vehicular traffic of any description from either side of the boder across the Indo- Bhutan falling under Kokrajhar and Chirang district from 6PM of April 10 to 6AM of April 12. This order has been imposed after considering likelihood of subversive activities to be carried by the anti social elements in the district on the day of poll, i.e on April 11, 2016. However, the vehicles of the District Administration, Magistrates, Police, Army and Paramilitary forces are exempted from the purview of this prohibitory order. District magistrates both from Kokrajhar and Chirang have also said that the district administration have fully prepared to conduct the poll free and fair in the districts.

After 8-day net services resumes

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens in Lower Assam districts including  Bodoland Territorial Council  have expressed happiness and gladness having found resumed of internet services today after eight days blockade. The internet service was found resumed at 9 am that saw smilling and happiness environment amongst the citizens in the region. Earlier, BTC region was made exempted from the disruption of net services from state government on December 10. However, all kinds of internet services were made disrupted all over the state on December 12 to keep the strong mass protest against the controversial citizenship (amendement) act.

CAB Row: Five protesters held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Police arrested five protesters in Kokrajhar on Wednesday who burnt effigies of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019. Activists and members from All Assam Nath Yogi Students Union carried out a protest demonstration along the JD Road near District Computer centre in Kokrajhar against the CAB bill and burnt effigies of Sonowal and Sarma. The protestors staged protest demonstration with shouting slogans demanding early withdrawal of the bill. The protestors violated CrPC 144 clamp in the district", said a senior police officer.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Saptah celebration

Bandh affects normal life,protesters burnt tyres on road

KOKRAJHAR: Normal life was paralised  in four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region on Tuesday due to 11-hour north east bandh called to put protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which was tabled in Lok Sabha on Monday amidst strong oppossed from different corner. AGP to contest in BTC elections

KOKRAJHAR: The ruling partner in the state alliance government, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has said that the their party is going to participate in the ensuing 2020 BTC general elections. Speaking the reporters at Kokrajhar Press Club on Sunday, AGP leader Subir Chakraborty told that his party was fully prepared to contest the council elections due in March-April 2020 under the alliance spirits of BJP-BPF-AGP in the state. He said that seat sharing discussion will be finalised in due time and party is getting several seats.  

National workshop concludes in Bodoland University

Social activist Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma passes away

KOKRAJHAR: Noted social activist, former leader of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and close associate of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Yamao Jwhwlao Brahma passed away on Wednesday night at a private hospital in Guwahati. Brahma was admitted at the hospital few months back following some illness. He left a son and daughter and his wife. Journalisn workshop held

A day-long workshop on journalism was held at Bodofa House, Baganshali in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. Young journalists from different six districts of the state- Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Udalguri, Baksa, Chirang and Kokrajhar participated the workshop. Goreswar lifts BTAD-Army football premier league

KOKRAJHAR: Goreswar Town Football Club of Baksa beat Udalguri's Bhergaon Football Club 4-0 goals to lift the trophy in the final match of the BTAD-Army football premier league-2019 held at Kokrajhar Govt HS & MP School playground, Kokrajhar on Sunday. For Goreswar, Jegyas Deka netted first goal in 21st minutes. Again, Bimal Boro, Jegyas Deka and Dhiraj Rajbongshi scored one each goal in 37th, 40th and 42nd minutes of the first half that led the team.
