Another session of Hepatitis-B vaccination camp is on the card for the members of Guwahati Press Club on 7 April next (11 am to 1 pm). The free camp, primarily organized for the lady scribes who took the first dose of Hepatitis-B vaccine on 7 March last, will be open for fresh participants too. The necessary condition will be that they have to take the second & final dose of Hepatitis-B vaccine on 7 May next.
It may be mentioned that the city based Dispur Hospitals earlier organized a health camp exclusively for lady journalists and better-halves of the scribes at the press club a month back. Organized on the eve of International Women’s Day, the camp was conducted by female doctors & lady assistants only.
Hepatitis-B is an infectious and deadly disease that primarily affects the human liver. Caused by the Hepatitis-B virus, the disease may show no symptom during the initial infection. Emerged as a critical public health problem in the country, the virus kills annually over 600,000 patients in the Indian subcontinent.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) over 40 million Indians are living with the chronic Hepatitis-B infection. As the infection of Hepatitis-B virus can be prevented by the vaccine, the WHO recommends better detection and prevention facilities across the globe.
