13 candidates in fray in two LACs in Chirang district

A total of 13 candidates are in fray to contest in both 31-Sidli(ST) LAC and 33-Bijni LAC in Chirang district assembly election scheduled on April 11 next.  

Five candidates are in fray to contest in Sidli LAC, who are included Chandan Brahma (BPF), Pankaj Islary (AIUDF), Dilip Kumar Sarania (Independent), Phalmarston Brahma (Independent) and Rwngwra Narzary (Independent).Eight candidates are contesting from Bijni LAC-Kamalsing Narzary (BPF), Kamaleswar Ray (AIUDF), Gajendra Barman (CPI-M), Biswajit Ray (INC), Ajay Kumar Ray (BGP), Philip Marandi (JDP), Khalilur Rahman (Independent) and Santosh Kaklary (Independent).

Altogether 1,89,850 voters( male-95,099 and female-94,751) in Sidli constituency and 1,34,032 voters(male-69,628 and female-64,404) in Bijni constuency will decide the fate of the candidates in the upcoming assembly election in the district.

There are 245 polling stations in Sidli (ST) LAC of these 65 are hyper sensitive, 76 are sensitive, 23 are vulnerable, 66 are comparatively safe and 1 is critical.  In Bijni LAC, a total of 191 polling stations,of which 87 are sensitive, 25 are very sensitive, 58 are critical and 79 are marked as comparatively safe.

Meanwhile, the Chirang district election officer and Bijni district election officer have called the contesting candidates, their agents and proposers as well the officials engaged in various election duties for strict adherence to ECI's guidelines. They stressed on the need to step up and intensify surveillance and checking on violation of Model Code of Conduct within their election districts. They also appealed to the electors not to take and give any offer of cash, liqour, gift items or free food during election process as this practice was considered as bribe and punishable under the purview of law. Further, these election districts are being conducted training for the polling personnel along with hands on training on EVM.

Kokrajhar: UPPL chief Pramod Boro took oath as BTC Chief Executive Member along with 4 others as his executive member—2 from BJP and one from GSP on Monday. Kokrajhar: BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary has urged BJP leadership to help his party retain BTC hours after his party fell short of numbers.
