Observer training

The training for the Micro Observers appointed for 31- Sidli LAC was held at Chirang  DC office on Monday. Among others, the training was attended by General Observer Priyatu Mandal, Expenditure Observer Joginder Singh and Chirang DC and RO Rupak Kumar Mazumder. Highlighting the guidelines on the role and responsibilities, the DC Mazumder said that Micro Observer is a special job profile created under the guidelines of the ECI and asked all to oversee the overall election process of the polling booths asigned to them and keep in touch with the General ElectionObserver and him. He appealed everyone to be conversant with laws and rules related to election on the day of poll as per the guidelines made available to them with a view to ensure peaceful election in the district. The General Observer Mandal informed that this is a national duty and all the officers should carry out their duties with outmost sincerity. He appealed all to be fully aware of their duties and responsibilities and go through the guidekines thoroughly.

NDFB cadres lay down arms

More than sixteen hundred NDFB cadres today formally laid down arms. In a ceremony organised at GMCH auditorium in the presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal 1615 cadres of the outfit submitted their arms before the government authority. Welcoming them to the mainstream chief minister Sonowal hoped that the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA(I) would follow the path of the NDFB. A few days ago the government signed a tripritite peace treaty with all the factions of the NDFB. In the treaty the Centre and state government, reportedly, promised to upgrade the BTAD as BTR.

Assam bandh against UTC in BTAD

Several organisations including AAKRASU and ABAMSU have reportedly, called a 12-hour-long Assam bandh on January27 in protest against proposed UTC for BTAD. These organisations are apprehensive that the Union government is going to upgrade the BTC as UTC. Already, they have warned the Union government to abdicate such move.

Resentment over proposed UTC in BTAD

Several organistions have expressed resentment over the Centre's move to upgrade the Bodo Territorial Council as Union Territorial Council. According to sources the Centre would soon sign a peace pact with the NDFB . In the pact upgradation of the BTC as a UTC would likely to take place, sources revealed. Opposing the move AKRASU, ABAMSU and many other organistaions of the BTAD have warned the Union government to abdicate such decision. These organisations have also termed the proposal as undemocratic.

Jr. engineer arrested in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: One junior engineer posted at Kachugaon development block has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement with a massive financial scam. Archana Rongne (50), was picked up by the anti-corruption wing of the Assam police.
