Int'l Women’s Day celebrated

The International Women’s day was celebrated in different parts of Kokrajhar in a befitting with various programmes on Wednesday. 

Commemorating the celebration among the women vendors of Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon, NERSWN, a Kokrajhar NGO gave away the 5th Woman Entrepreneur Award 2015 (Aijw Falangi Bantha) to Damola Mushahary of South Singimmari in Kokrajhar at a ceremonial programme held at Gwjwn Dera Nerswn Complex, Jwmwipuri(Chandrapara). The award consists of a citation, cash Rs 10,000 and Indi shawl.

A mother of eight children, including six girls and 2 sons, Mushahary started weaving clothes and sell it to the market to run the family after their agricultural land was eroded by river.

With the income, she not only helped her husband in earning but also managed to sent the children to school. She is proud that all her daughters are married after completing their schools. Today one of her son is in jawan with the BSF and another is a teacher at a junior college in Kokrajhar.

The celebration was attended by Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Kokrajhar chairperson Malaya Deka, ABSU president Promod Boro, Jennifer Liang of The Ant, Digambar Narzary of Nedan foundation among others .   

The international women day was also celebrated by the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar with a day long programme among the women and girls. The Marwari Yuva Manch and the Bodoland University, Kokrajhar also celebrated the day in a befitting manner.
