Udalguri administration gears up for Assembly Poll with 95 hypersensitive PS

With the announcement of Assembly Poll dates in Assam by Election Commission,Udalguri district administration has been gearing up for smooth conduct of Assembly polls on April 4. As per EC announcement Assembly poll will be held in all three LACs namely-64 Paneri,69 Udalguri (ST) and 70 Mazbat on April 4.A high level election meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri on March 5 at 12 noon which was attended by all top civil and police officials,political leaders and media personnel. Mrs.Sadhana Hojai, DC, Udalguri presided over the meeting.On the occasion the DC explained about schedule of Election 2016 in the district,Model Code of Conduct instructions,Check Lists, Expenditure and Monitoring,Flying Squads etc.As per schedule last date for filing nominations will be March 18, scrutiny on March 19, last date of withdrawal on March 21, polling on April 4 and finally result announcement on May 19. Richand Ahmed ADC,Udalguri will be the Returning Officer for 64 Paneri LAC,Sadhana Hojai DC,Udalguri for 69 Udalguri (ST) and Anupam Choudhury ADC,Udalguri for 70 Mazbat LAC.On the other hand Lakhyajyoti Das,CO,Khoirabari will be Magistrate in-charge in 64 Paneri,Rana Bora CO,Udalguri in 69 Udalguri(ST) and Pankaj Chamua,CO Mazbat in 70 Mazbat LAC. Dimple Baruah,Asstt.Commissioner Udalguri will be in charge of media publicity and communication.


The meeting was addressed by Rakesh Roshan, Superintendent of Police,Udalguri.He informed that there will be 95 hyper sensitive,187 sensitive,2 critical and 4 no network polling stations in all the three LAC in the district.The SP pointed out that total of 35 company of para military forces would be deployed for peaceful conduct of the poll.At the sametime he mentioned that the district had already had 15 companies of paramilitary forces.According to the SP each hyper sensitive booths would be guarded by a section of paramilitary forces while half section in sensitive and one or two Assam Police man without arm would guard safe polling booths. On drive against insurgent groups the SP said that 28 militants including NDFB(S),NLF(B),NSLA and NSCN(IM) along with 6 linkman had been apprehanded in the district till 5 March 2016.It needs mention that although major part of 65 Kalaigaon LAC falls within the jurisdiction of Udalguri administration,the EC has directed Darrang Election Office to conduct Assembly Polls 2016 in Kalaigaon LAC.

A badly injured six years old wild tusker has succumbed to death yesterday evening on May 23 after battling for life since May 18 at Ganeshghat village in Udalguri district.The injured wild tusker had been very weak while entering the remote village near Majuli tea garden with other two wild elephants on May 18.Villagers could see several injury marks on its body and blood was seen oozing out from a deep injury on its fore head.Unable to cross a small stream, the tusker fell to the bottom of the streamlet.
