Mahanta attends AGP-BJP seat sharing talks
Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is taking the lead in the AGP-BJP poll deal discussion in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The meeting is scheduled at 3 in the afternoon at the residence of BJP president Amit Shah in presence of Sarbananda Sonowal.
Apart from Amguri, Tezpur, West Guwahati and Bongaigaon, AGP is free for friendly contest in some other seats. But the BJP leadership are not willing to leave beyond 25 seats for the regional party. But sources said AGP is least interested in friendly contest.
Senior AGP leaders on Tuesday invited the founder president to break the deadlock over the seat sharing deal when BJP straightly refused to give the regional party more than 20 seats.
BJP leadership in New Delhi deployed Himanta Biswa Sarma to talk to the AGP delegation comprising Atul Bora, Pradeep Hazarika, Phani Bhushan Chaudhury, Birendra Prasad Baishaya and RN Kalita.
On Tuesday no breakthrough surfaced in New Delhi. Amit Shah did not meet the AGP delegation. Sarbananda Sonowal left the capital much to a major disappointment of the regional party leaders.

A pro talk ULFA delegation is rubbing shoulders with top home ministry officials in New Delhi on Tuesday to break the decade old peace logjam in Assam. Led by ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, the six member delegation is initiating the talks with Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrish. The ULFA delegation is strongly believed to have asked the government to ensure the participation of the recently deported ULFA founder general secretary Anup Chetia whom a special court on Monday remanded to judicial remand. The Supreme Court has refused to hear the review petitions of Assam, West Bengal and Kerala on the ban on the photographs of political leaders on the government advertisments saying that it would be taken up in January as soon as the Centre files its affidavits.
