Morigaon CPI leader Manoj Deka who was struggling with death at the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre died on Friday morning. Doctors at the GNRC called it a case o brain haemorrhage and tried their level best but ultimately failed. The end came at 8-43 in the morning. The Morigaon district CPI general secretary was rushed to the city based nursing hospital on Tuesday night after he was severely beaten up by police duty in the evening. The incident is set to touch off a seismic wave of reactions across the state’s political parties, organisations and individuals. Former MLA and CPI leader Munin Mahanta have called it a cold blooded murder and that they will not tolerate it. The party is drawing up a massive protest plan across the state in protest against the government.
The CPI leader of Morigaon was rushed to it following his serious injury when he was mercilessly beaten up by a police constable on duty at Morigaon township on Tuesday evening on his way back to his home. His wife Dipali Devi Deka, who broke down is still at the GNRC.
Former MLA and party leader Munin Mahanta, who was present there called it a cold blooded murder committed to make the party a frail and weak. Mahanta rued that the policeman on duty left others but stopped Deka only for checking while he was on his way from market on bicycle. When the policemen threw his bag, he asked them to check it carefully. But the police constable on duty Rafikul Islam was running out of patience. He started up beating up Deka mercilessly and even at Deka’s head and that too in full view of some of his senior colleagues including OC Kamal Bora.

As what is seen as a precedence for many such moves in the future, a proposal to raise the retirement age from 58 to 60 years for employees of profit-making central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) has been approved by the Union Cabinet. Guwahati: In connection with the abduction and recovery of the dead bodies of the CCI Manager Kailash Jha and PWD junior Engineer Ajay Kumar Deka, the City Police has arrested five persons, inlcuding an Army officer, for kidnap and murder of Deka.
