IITG mega event Alcheringa starts from Jan 28

Wipro Limited presents IIT Guwahati’s Alcheringa 2016 - Gamescape, the largest cultural extravaganza of the North East, happening from 28th January to 31st January 2016. With brilliant performers from around the world and national-level competitions, its a one-of-a-kind treat. This year’s roster has some very big names in the Music Industry. The theme for this edition of Alcheringa is 'Gamescape'. Reading books, watching movies and playing games to step away from the monotony of everyday life is in a way a means to escape reality. Gamescape focuses on Life as a Game, where the real and the virtual worlds are intertwined.

On the first night of Saaz, the Classical Music Night, brothers Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, the 7th Generation of a legendary musical lineage and the sons and disciples of Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan will entertain the crowd with their Sarods.

The Second Night of Blitzkrieg, the EDM Night, will witness the mixing prowess of famed artists Dualist Inquiry and Sandunes. Combining genres like Rock, Dubstep, Lounge and Garage with an Electronic twist, it it sure to keep the audience on their feet. Mika Singh, the Bollywood Singer, songwriter cum composer will star in Crescendo, the Bollywood Night. Known for his hit numbers like ‘Bas Ek King’ and ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’, his jovial presence is eagerly awaited by everyone!

The Final Night of Juggernaut, the Rock Band Night, involves Finnish Folk Metal Giants Korpiklaani! Their trademark style includes native Samic music elements, Shamanic Drums and Joik Singing , which is quite unique. Watch them live on the 31st. Aside from this, the World Carnival contains Pro-Shows and Street Shows from around the globe including performances by Israeli Psychedelic Rock band Ouzo-Bazooka , Australian Poet cum Rapper Omar Musa and Extreme Metal Band Meta-Stasis.

Alcheringa has also come up with some novel initiatives including the IITG Model United Nations, where students get to work like UN delegates, Udaan, a social initiative to help children and North East Unveiled, an initiative to help promote North East India. For the NE Unveiled initiative, Alcheringa is conducting two activities this year. The NE Townhall Discussions, is an informal discussion aiming to attempt to discuss possible solutions for issues regarding the North East.

The NE Social Entrepreneurial Summit aims to educate aspiring Entrepreneurs on Geographical Indicatiors and how to use them to improve their brand as well as protect natural resources.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (I) handed down the death penalty to two of its cadres for their alleged involvement with espionage. In a press communique, the outlawed outfit said that its two cadres, Sanjiv Sarma and Dhanjit Das, were found to be involved in espionage. An Assam court grants bail to MLA Jignesh Mevani in the assault case and pulls up police for filing false FIR against him. Jignesh Mevani was slapped with another case and was arrested on Monday night for the second time soon after he was granted bail by a court in Kokrajhar. Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit. In a statement sent to media,  the proscribed outfit claimed to have caught the conspiracy as they grilled a youth from Baihata Chariali in Kamrup who recently joined the outfit.  They have published a list of youths who were trained to target the outfit..
