Assam Congress is weighing all options to retain power for the fourth straight terms. This was more or less the impression of the close door meeting of Rahul Gandhi with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Anjan Dutta in New Delhi on Thursday. Gogoi and Dutta apprised Gandhi the measures in the pipeline to woo the voters. The duo further talked of an understanding with AIUDF and AGP to keep BJP at bay.
Sources told Assam Times that Gandhi, the AICC vice president has asked Gogoi to go ahead with poll alliance with the like minded parties.
Talking to Assam Times after the meeting, Gogoi said that they apprised Gandhi of the poll preparation, strategies along with the current political situation is quite conducive for the ruling party to put up an impressive show in the upcoming assembly polls. "I am still waiting for the poll understanding with the parties like AIUDF and AGP. BJP is our main rival," said Gogoi.
Gogoi is confident that Congress will remain in power for the fourth consecutive terms. He said," I agree that the anti incumbency factors are there. If the government achieve success on some vital fronts anti incumbency factors do not work which we have seen in the last two terms. The picture remains same."
Gandhi is understood to have agreed to visit Assam in February.
