More ULFA strike in Mangaldoi, Nagaon: Kumarikata toll up 7

Hours after the fatal blast that left seven people dead in lower Assam’s Baska district, the ULFA militants made yet another strike at a police patrol team injuring three security personnel and a civilian. According to information, the ULFA militants riding a motorcycle attacked a security patrol at village Tetelia in Nagaon district at around 8.30 evening.. The injured were shifted to a hospital.

This was followed by the killing of a surrendered ULFA rebel in Mangaldoi on late Sunday.. Police suspect it to be the handiwork of ULFA. Investigation is on.

On the other hand, the death toll in the Kumarikata weekly market on Sunday has mounted to 7 with the death of two more inured persons at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Out of the 21 injured people undergoing treatment at the GMCH, four people are said to be in a critical condition.

The incident took place a few days after two companies of ULFA crack unit announced unilateral ceasefire with the government in a bid to boost the peace process. On Friday evening, ULFA exploded a serial blast in Nagaon leaving 15 people injured including two policemen. ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah have threatened to launch more strike.
