Brothers in arms against one another: 7 killed

At least seven NSCN(U) cadres were killed in an encounter between the two NSCN rival fractions. According to the sources in the night of 26th June a large group of NSCN(IM), the most powerful fraction of the Naga extremist group, attacked a camp of recently formed NSCN(Unification) fraction near Dimapur in Nagaland killing atleast 7 cadres of them. According to Liremu Lotha, S.P. Dimapur, the incident took place in Bikho near Dimapur. Five dead bodies were already identified as cadres of NSCN(U). He further said that two dead bodies were still unidentified. The NSCN(IM) fraction also burnt down the camp of NSCN(U) along with nearly 47 vehicles belonging to NSCN(U).

It is to be mentioned that since 1997 the NSCN(IM) has been initiating peace talk with Govt. of India and have declared unconditional cease fire. Recently some cadres of NSCN(IM) have pressurized their leadership for unification with the other fraction i.e., NSCN(K) but the leadership was not in favour of any such unification. As a consequence the aggrieved cadres of the militant outfit have formed another group named NSCN(U).
