Bhairabkunda Festival from Jan 20

The 4th Bhairabkunda Tourism Festival will be held from January 20-23 at Bhairabkunda a beautiful picnic spot on the foothills of Indo-Bhutan border.

The three day programme will include cultural exchange programmes from BTC, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh, seminars, exhibition-cum-sales by local self help groups, half marathon race from Udalguri to Bhairabkunda, inter district wrestling competition and host of other events. An executive committee meeting of the festival organising panel was held here on January 2 last which was chaired by Chairman Rihon Daimari, MLA of Udalguri LAC. It is to be mentioned that Bhairabkunda is just 20 KM from Udalguri town. Situated on India-Bhutan international border, Bhairabkunda is known as a picnic hot spot for its unmatched scenic beauty since long back. Thousands of nature loving people visit Bhairabkunda every year to share romantic moments with nature. Perhaps time itself dances in the tune of fast flowing roaring waves of Dhansiri river. People could also taste the hilly fishes of Dhansiri river. Walking along the streets of Daifam, a small Bhutan township is worth mentioning . One can easily experience the thrill of visiting a foreign country without passport or visas. Bhairabkunda now is a small town having many government offices.

A tourist lodge has also been constructed at Bhairabkunda for tourists. The festival  will be organised by Bhairabkunda Tourist Centre and it is sponsored by Tourism department of BTC.The festival organised with a purpose to put Bhairabkunda with its natural beauty on the tourism map of country has already caught attention of people who long for holidaying at a spacious and hygienic atmosphere in the lap of nature. A tourist lodge has also been constructed at Bhairabkunda for tourists. It may be noted that the first Bhairabkunda festival was held in March, 2005 where thousands of people from various places took part.

The silver jubilee session of Udalguri district ‘Bathou Mahasabha’ is going to be held at Harisinga from February 6 to 9, 2016. The Harisinga Bathaou Anchalik has taken the initiative to organise this big religious event of the Bodo culture. The venue of the event is fixed at Sonaisri Fwthar, Harisinga. The 12 hour Assam bandh called by Hiteswar Barman led AKRSU in demand of ST status to six communities of state namely the Koch Rajbongsi, Adivasi, Motok, Moran, Chutia and Tai Ahoms had paralysed life in the buisiness and educational town of Udalguri district Tangla. All shops and business establishments, educational and financial institutes remained closed during the bandh period. However few schools and Junior colleges with low attendence of students functioned till 12.Except some private vehicles no other vehicles were seen plying on the roads in the town. No untoward incident occurred in the town during the bandh period.
Akhil Hindi Bhasi Vikash Parishad, that works towards the interest of the Hindi speaking communities of four districts of BTC, had its general meeting on November 15 at Tangla where it had formed its regional committee. The meeting was presided over by Central General Secretary Santosh Shah. Students of Arunodoi Academy Tangla celebrated Children's day in a special way. The students under the guidance of Principal of the academy Napolean Daimari distributed food packets among the patients of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Hospital, Tangla.
