Earthquake felt in BTAD

A massive 6.8 earthquake  jolt was also felt this morning around 4.35 AM in Lower Assam's’ BTAD districts including Kokrajhar as peoples have to come out of the houses.

It was the first felt jolt of earthquake in the early day of the first week of January(2016) that  impact severely in Manipur.

‘No any casualty  or damaged and cracks of buildings are reported so far in the jolt from districts’, said Madhav Prasad Sarma,Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner.The district administration was working to take information about post earthquake in the district,Sarma added.

‘Me along with my family and peoples of our resident complex come out from the room and houses in fearing after felt jolt of earthquake early this morning which lasted around 50 seconds. It was a dangerous jolt after Nepal that claimed thousands of lives leaving huge damages in June last year(2015)’,  said MH Narzary,a resident of Jampwi Barnai under Ward No.8 in Kokrajhar town.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
