Assam had a narrow escape from a high voltage political tamasha when BJP workers did not target police on Thursday after the arrival of Himanta Biswa Sarma from Dhaka.
Sarma, who left to the Bangladesh hours after the GS Road clash on Monday, in his twitter posts tired to spread a rumour of a secret move of Guwahati police to arrest in this connection.
On the basis of this rumour BJP workers in large number thronged the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 12 noon to allegedly attack policemen from arresting Sarma. His supporters, mostly, came to his rescue from police arrest. But his theatrics remained no longer secret. Guwahati police have openly denied move to arrest the former cabinet minister. A section of Congress leaders told Assam Times that he wanted to be arrested to strike nationwide advantage a few days after he allegedly instigated some of his BJP workers to march towards the Rajiv Bhawan where they clashed with a section of their Congressmen. "Had the authority not denied the move to arrest Sarma, his supporters would have targetted policemen much to his delight," said a Congress.
