Devotees offering prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya as the temple door has opened today after four days at the Kamakhya temple premises, believed to be the center of the Hindu cult of Tantra in Guwahati on 25-06-08. Today is the last day of the ongoing annual four-day "Ambubachi Mela". Thousands of seers and pilgrims converged at the temple for the festival, which began on June 22.

please go through the local newspaper relased on 16/06/2009 Kamakhya temple closure GUWAHATI, June 15 – The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for four days from June 22 to June 25 on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning for devotees, a press release received here today stated. No entry passes will be issued in respect of police, defence, military and paramilitary personnel for three days from the date of reopening of the temple in view of the rush of devotees, the release added.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduledto call on Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday who is on a three day visit to India. During his date with Hasina, the Assam Chief Minister will talk terrorism and trans border crimes. Two hardcore ULFA rebels were killed at an encounter with security forces in Assam on Sunday wee hours. The encounter took place at Khetri in the oitskirt of the city of Guwahati where securuty forces claimed to have seized a huge cache of explosives and weapons from the spot. According to informaiton, a joint team of police and securuity focrces conducted an operation acting on a tip off that a three-member group of ULFA rebels was hiding in the area. The encounter lasted for nearly 30 minutes where the ULFA rebels died on the spot. One of the rebels, however, managed to flee from the spot. The deceased have yet to be identified.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday sees some sort of positive development in terms of talk with the government. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Gogoi said talks minus ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Barua is possible. A stunning revelation by an Bangladesh minister touches off a seismic wave of reaction across India two days before the arrival of Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina.
