Devotees offering prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya as the temple door has opened today after four days at the Kamakhya temple premises, believed to be the center of the Hindu cult of Tantra in Guwahati on 25-06-08. Today is the last day of the ongoing annual four-day "Ambubachi Mela". Thousands of seers and pilgrims converged at the temple for the festival, which began on June 22.

please go through the local newspaper relased on 16/06/2009 Kamakhya temple closure GUWAHATI, June 15 – The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for four days from June 22 to June 25 on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning for devotees, a press release received here today stated. No entry passes will be issued in respect of police, defence, military and paramilitary personnel for three days from the date of reopening of the temple in view of the rush of devotees, the release added.

No Paresh no talk: Mithinga

The United Liberation Front of Asom on Monday makes it plain and simple that it is averse to hold any talk with the givernment in the absence of Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah who is still at large. This was disclosed by the jailed publicity secretary of the rebel outfit Mithinga Daimary who was brought to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital for health check up.

Seminar on Human Rights

Humancipation group under social project initiatives of Darwin School of Business (DSB) organise a seminar on human rights at Icon Academy on 11th January. Mr. Sawpon Dowerah, Principal of Icon Academy inaugurated the seminar and he elaborately spoken on various aspects of human rights. There was interaction with the audience after his speech. Ranjan K Baruah, Social Projects Coordinator of DSB spoken on Right to Food and other human rights issues. He had appealed to the people to become human rights defender. Many students had participated in the seminar. The seminar was supported by Panos South Asia.

Peace talk: ULFA may to clear its stand today

The United Liberarion Front of Asom is likely to clar its stand on the peace process with the government even as the Centre is clearing the decks to get jailed ULFA leader Anup Chetia get extradiated. Top sources of the baned insurgent outfit said the jailed ULFA leaders are likely to announce the decision. The announcement would be significant hardly a wek after ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Baruah vowed massive strike on security forces deployed in Assam. Gogoi, 2 other NE CMs to meet Hasina

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduledto call on Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday who is on a three day visit to India. During his date with Hasina, the Assam Chief Minister will talk terrorism and trans border crimes. Gogoi will be accompanied by two other Chief Minister of the region DD Lapang from Meghalaya and Manik Sarka frinm Tripura. Gogoi left for the national capital after he was invited by the Centre.

Workshop on the Rights of Disable People

Encounter near Guwahati: 2 ULFA men killed

Two hardcore ULFA rebels were killed at an encounter with security forces in Assam on Sunday wee hours. The encounter took place at Khetri in the oitskirt of the city of Guwahati where securuty forces claimed to have seized a huge cache of explosives and weapons from the spot. According to informaiton, a joint team of police and securuity focrces conducted an operation acting on a tip off that a three-member group of ULFA rebels was hiding in the area. The encounter lasted for nearly 30 minutes where the ULFA rebels died on the spot. One of the rebels, however, managed to flee from the spot. The deceased have yet to be identified.

Gogoi positive on talk with ULFA

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday sees some sort of positive development in terms of talk with the government. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Gogoi said talks minus ULFA Comander in Chief Paresh Barua is possible. The Chief Minister said, "we donot have a definite reply from ULFA but the signals are quite positive." He said the doors are still open and the government wants every body to be present in the talk. A stunning revelation by an Bangladesh minister touches off a seismic wave of reaction across India two days before the arrival of Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina.
