Anti-social acts in Nagaon on the rise; Administration on sleep
In the name of modernization and with the blessings of a section of fraudulent businessmen and their henchmen, there is a sharp rise in illicit trafficking of contraband ganja, locally made liquor, besides operation of dirt-game (
teer khel), open selling of pornographic CD's, gambling and other anti-social activities at various places of Nagaon.
During the investigation carried on by Assam Times correspondent, it is witnessed at certain places that these activities are creating an adverse affect on the populace, especially school or college-going students. It came to light during investigation that a few policemen are also involving in these activities. It is worth mentioning that with the involvement of these youngsters as prey, the lobby with the help of administration is reaping handsome profits thereby making the innocents to go astray.
Though there are a number of socio-political organisations in nagaon, they all seem to turn a deaf ear to the illicit business.

In a major breakthrough, police have caught three notorious gang of car lifters in Nagaon on Thursday. Identified as Madan Ali, Anowal Islam and Ananta Deka where caught in Roha on their way to upper Assam from Guwahati. To mark the World No Tobacco Day, the Raha college Internel Quality Assesment Cell ( IQAS ) on Friday took out an awarness rally at Raha where a good number of students of the college took part in. The procession by the students passed through various areas of the town shouting slogans against the uses of tobacco and the effects of the consumption of tobacco. The students called on all to quit the habit of consuming tobacco, be it any form. The rally was flagged off by the principal of the college Dr. Bed Kumar Chaliha, and addressed by Diptee Devi, vice-principal of the college.

An uneasy calm seems to have been prevailing Nagaon following a clash between businessmen and a section of violent protestors on Tuesday.The incident took place at noon when a group of people took out a peace rally in Hoiborgaon seeking an end to bloodletting in BTAD.The rally was peaceful when they submitted a memorandum before the Deputy Commissioner.A section of the protesters turned violent after unidentified miscreants allegedly pelted stones at them.The violent protestors attack a policeman apart from damaging a few shops in the town. Parismita Das (17), an H.S first year student of Raha college died after she was run over by the upper Kapili passenger train at Thekeraguri under Raha P.S on Friday. The accident took place at 12.25 p.m. as the student was crossing the railway lines at the said point. The train was on its way to Haibargaon, Nagaon. While many suspect it could be a case of suicide, police sources said there was no suicide note left by the student.
Two youths were killed when their motorcycle hit a stranded truck near Raha on Saturday.The tragic incident took place in the wee hours at Bagariguri when the duo, identified as Khalil Ali and Pharidul Islam, were riding on their two wheelers.Suddenly, they were believed to have lost control over the motorcycle bearing No ML - 09-A-3676 hit the bamboo laden truck bearing No AS-01P-0183. Both they died on the spot. The bodies were sent for post mortem.Meanwhile, a pall is gloom is descended in Manipurtoop village where the deceased were born and brought up.
