Much to a major boost for Congress in rank and file in Assam, Prashant Kishore has agreed to help the ruling party in the assembly polls March next year.
The brain behind the grand alliance in Bihar, who held a round of informal talks with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently, left New Delhi for Guwahati on Thursday afternoon.
Sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that the poll Chanakya will hunker down with Tarun Gogoi and Rahul Gandhi on Friday to finalise the pre poll strategy when the Congress vice president will on a two days visit to the state on Friday.
"Gogoi recently talked to Prashant at the instance of Rahulji who agreed, in principle, to help Gogoi retain the power in Dispur," said a senior AICC leader.
Notably, former Chief Minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta met Kishore in the capital on Tuesday evening and discuss the strategy an anti-Congress and anti-BJP wave in Assam. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar helped Mahanta met the poll strategist at the Bihar Bhawan in the evening.

Braving a rising mercury voters are lined up across 862 booths in the ongoing civic polls in Guwahati city on Wednesday. Assamtimes team came to see the huge queue of voters even before 7 in the morning. Talking Assamtimes, polling authorities hoped that the turn out would cross 80 percent. Altogether 7,06,689 voters are expected to excercise their franchise in the single phase polling on Wednesday.
Worse is yet to come for Asom Gana Parishad. The party now stands crippled with escalating revolt against president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. His alleged autocratic style of functioning is believed to have forced a circle of dedicated party leaders to join the ruling Congress. Amid tight security polling in the Guwahati civic bodies begins across the city. Over 7 lakh voters are free to decide on the fate of172 ward councillors along with 356 area sabha candidates. Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeks public apology for the incident at the Mangaldoi civil hospital where four persons tested positive for HIV after they underwent blood transfusion. Sarma said that the Mangaldoi incident was very unfortunate and he had deep regret for it.
