Seminar on Conflict, displacement and children’s vulnerability

A two day seminar cum interaction session on 'Conflict, displacement and children’s vulnerability' was organised by Centre for Peace & Conflict studies, Bodoland University and NERSWN at Central Institute of Technology (CIT) in Kokrajhar which begins from Friday.


Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) Runumi Gogoi attended the seminar as inaugurator. 


In her speech, Gogoi expressed serious concern over the rise in trafficking case in the state. 'Massive internal displacement caused by floods and ethnic violence has taken a toll on the children in the state. In many cases, children were trafficked from the relief camps for flood and violence victims, she said. 


She stressed the need of a multi-pronged approach to strengthen child protection measures in the conflict zones in the state and collective effort for all stake holders.


The objective of the seminar is to improve the understanding on children’s vulnerability due to conflcit and displacement especially in BTAD, to contribute towards knowledge building on effective programming to reduce children’s vulnerability due to conflict and displacement, to analyse and document the impact of conflict and displacement on children etc.


BTC secretary Health & Family Welfare Rahila Brahma also spoke on the ocassion. Brahma said her department is ready for any kind of help  whenever necessary.


Representative from various NGOs working on the issue including  Nedan foundation, Nerswn, Ozfam India, Doctors for You, the action northeast trust, Luthern World Service, etc also participated.
