National Press Day celebrated

Empowerment of Press Council of India, financial supports to media persons from both print & television, corporatization of the media, challenges over enhancing media credibility etc were few issues those were highlighted in the National Press Day function organized on Monday. Organized by Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU) at Guwahati Press Club, the function also witnessed the felicitation of seven prominent journalists of the State including Prasanta Rajguru (editor, Amar Asom), Sanjib Phukan (associate editor, Asomiya Pratidin), Subodhmalla Barua (general secretary, All India Sports Journalists Association), Amitav Barua (senior journalist), Nava Thakuria (secretary, Journalists’ Forum Assam), Sankar Laskar (editor, Asomiya Khabar)and Kiran Mukherjee (photo-journalist, Dainik Agradoot).

Dr Akasitora Saikia, well-known television media personality of Assam, also graced the function which was presided over by APCU president Manoj Singh. Earlier APCU executive president Mousamjyoti Baishya and APCU general secretary Abdul Khalek conducted a brief programmme to pay tribute to over 20 journalists of Assam, who lost their lives to assailants in the last two decades.
