Chhath puja would be observed on riverbanks and near other water bodies on November 17 and 18 at Tangla. The festival include rigorous fast and rituals spanning four days, holy bathing, abstaining from drinking water, presenting offerings(argh) to the Sun God, standing in water and offering prasad In Tangla devotees would offer their prayers on the bank of two rivers Nonai and Naika. River ghats have been cleared and decorated by the puja committees. Out of the three Puja committees Nonai Chath Puja Committee is the oldest since 1960. Talking to Assam Times, Secretary of the Nonai Chath Puja Committee Bablu Kanu said that with the help of Police and SSB jawans adequate security arrangements have been made to conduct the puja smoothly as well as ensure the convenience of other citizens. Volunteers have also been appointed to look after the activities of people and prevent any untoward incident.
