SC to hear ad ban review plea in Jan

The Supreme Court has refused to hear the review petitions of Assam, West Bengal and Kerala on the ban on the photographs of political leaders on the government advertisments saying that it would be taken up in January as soon as the Centre files its affidavits.  

A bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose on Tuesday declined to pass any order saying that it would hear in January the petitions including by the centre seeking the review of its verdict. The court fixed January 12 as the next date of hearing. Senior counsel Kapil Sibal appeared on behalf of the Assam government while senior lawyers Prashant Bhushan and Meera Bhatia opposed the plea to review the judgment.

A pending cabinet reshuffle is expected to figure in a crucial meeting of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with the party high command in New Delhi Tuesday.Sources told Assam Times in the capital that Gogoi is scheduled to meet AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi in presence of state Congress president Anjan Dutta.“Dr Joshi’s meeting with Gogoi and Dutta is scheduled at 10 in the morning at the AICC headquarters. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Anjan Dutta are on a visit to New Delhi on Monday fetching a ray of hopes for the four lucky legislators who are waiting for ministeral berths.  Gogoi is scheduled to attend the Congress president and chief ministers’ conference in the capital on Tuesday. He is likely to meet party high command in the sidelights of the conference seeking the approval to induct four new members in the cabinet. “Gogoi has earlier submitted the list of the lucky legislators. Polling for the Delhi assembly election is over. The turn out is a staggering 67 per cent. The figure is likely to go up.
