Durga Puja gets underway

The much-vaunted Durga puja gets underway on Monday with the installation of the idols of the goddess of strength. Guwahati gets a fresh look with most of the puja pendals are being decorated with varieties of light and sound system to pull crowd.

Markets in Ganeshguri, Fancybazar, Lakhtokia are teeming with people for shopping. The flower vendors are vanishing from the Sukershwar Ghat because of assigned task of supplying flowers in the various puja pendals.

The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has asked the puja committees across the city to install CCTVs to monitor the movement of the visitors. The idols are set to be immersed on Thursday.
