Will the Churachandpur ice melt?

The ice seems to have started melting in Manipur. The process to bridge the trust deficit between hills tribe and their counterparts in the valley begins from Churachandur, the epicenter of the recent orgy of violence. Amid heavy security arrangement, a delegation of the plains people visited their Chhurachandpur counterparts on Saturday and shared their grief for the recent happenings. 

Led by former chief minister and chairman of the citizens' committee Radhabinod Koijam, the 12-member delegation of the Citizens Committee Manipur paid customary respect to those who died during the agitation before handing over their relatives sugar, milk, shawls and financial assistance. This is the first organisation from the valley to have reached out to Churachandpur town after trouble.

Then the trouble shooting delegation visited the office of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation and interacted with the leaders before a prayer session for the departed souls.

Talking to reporters, Koiijam called it a non political visit and that they want the normalcy to be restored at an earlier date.

A 4 magnitude earthquake no less struck panic in the northeastern state of Manipur on Friday. Originated in Ukhrul, the tremor was felt across the state at 10.04 in the evening forcing many people in the high rise buildings to come down to the open space. “As I was watching television, suddenly I came to feel the jolt as the clock struck at 10.4 in the evening. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to introduce air ambulance service in remote locations of Manipur, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has said. Interacting with media persons at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, the Manipur Governor Dr Najma said the amount was sanctioned by the DoNER Ministry after she personally moved the proposal in a recent meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC). “Discussions are on to decide the proposed air medical service delivery model in the state,” the Governor said.
