Will the Churachandpur ice melt?

The ice seems to have started melting in Manipur. The process to bridge the trust deficit between hills tribe and their counterparts in the valley begins from Churachandur, the epicenter of the recent orgy of violence. Amid heavy security arrangement, a delegation of the plains people visited their Chhurachandpur counterparts on Saturday and shared their grief for the recent happenings.

Led by former chief minister and chairman of the citizens' committee Radhabinod Koijam, the 12-member delegation of the Citizens Committee Manipur paid customary respect to those who died during the agitation before handing over their relatives sugar, milk, shawls and financial assistance. This is the first organisation from the valley to have reached out to Churachandpur town after trouble.

Then the trouble shooting delegation visited the office of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation and interacted with the leaders before a prayer session for the departed souls.

Talking to reporters, Koiijam called it a non political visit and that they want the normalcy to be restored at an earlier date.
