A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

A elderly woman was charred to death and two houses completely gutted in fire at Santinagar area in Kokrajhar town late last night.Sources said the elderly woman identified as Gita Dey, 75 was charred to death in the fire which started from her house and another house belonging to Montu Ghosh, a government employee were gutted damaging property over 20 lakhs.Sources said the woman stays alone as her son stays outside. A cultural rally was carried out on Friday in Kokrajhar town to mark the celebration of Third Annual Bonjar Festival,by Kokrajhar Govt. A hardcore self style sergent major of NDFB(S) was killed at an encounter with security forces on Wednesday night at Kachugaon Ripu Reserve forest area in Kokrajhar district.The slain militant was identified as Jounaluish Narzary @ Jangkla, who was involved in killing of Priya Basumatary in August last. A 7.65 mm pistol,a magazine,two grenade and bullets from recovered from him. A joint operation against militants involving Assam Police and Army was conducted in the area and expected more cache of arms would be recovered from militants, said a senior police officer.

One SSB jawan received bullet injury when his colleague jawan fired at him on Wednesday at  Ultapani Lungsung area under Kokrajhar police station.The injured jawan was identified as Sukban Singh and immediately rushed to Bongaigaon Lower Assam Hospital.The jawan received bullet on his leg and was engaged at Lungsung area post carnage of December 23 in Kokrajhar district and reason of injury was not known.
