Bardowa, the name of a place of historic wonder is throbbing with the activities of a full fledged Vashnavite nerve centre on Wednesday as the entire state soaks in the traditional fervour of the birth anniversary celebrations of the saint Shankardev. The entire place in the outskirt of Nagaon gets a fresh look with colourful cultural processions, nam kirtana, Bhaona from early in the morning to mark the 567th birth anniversary of the harbinger of nam dharma that pulled a sizeable chunk of population across the undivided Assam in the fifteenth centuries.
Talking to Assam Times organizer Harendranath Mahanta said that the entire area has turned into a heaven on this planet. Mahanta said, “Braving incessant rains that lashed the state, thousands of people of all walks of life spilled into the streets early in the morning chanting the name of the saint to join his birth anniversary celebration along with other parts of the state.
“The focus of attraction on Tuesday was the Jotha Dharma Totha Joi, a Bhaona which pulled overwhelmed response. Today’s attraction is the staging of the Parijat Haran drama by the saint,” said Mahanta.
Apart from these, a number of Vaishnavite scholars are participating in an open session on the occasion. Same farvour grips Tezpur, Majuli, Lakhimpur and Barpeta where the birth anniversary celebration of the saint is being observed in a big way.
