The Pragjyoti Communications in association with the horticulture and food processing departments observed Assam Agriculture Day as a mark of respect for Dr Dhirendra Nath Borthakur on Monday.
On the occasion a day-long programme, kicking off with a workshop among some hundred farmers to and fro of the state on the topic of entrepreneurship development in the state agriculture sector, was organised at Guwahati Press club.
Attending the work-shop as resource persons agriculture specialists Mousham Hazarika, Madan Deuri Bharali, Palash Moni Baruah and Pranjal Baruah spoke about scientific method of farming. Later the attending farmers were given certificates. He also delivered a valuable lecture on agriculture emphasising importance of horticulture and food processing in agarian economy .
Speaking on the occasion Pragjyoti Communications president Dipanka Hazarika said that they have been celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. Borthakur since 2012 as Assam Agriculture Day. Dr. Borthakur, born and brought up at Jorhat, has pursued higher studies in USA.
He has completed his doctoral research at University of Missouri, USA. Later on he served as Director, Rice Research, Assam, Director, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and finally he joined the Assam Agriculture University (Jorhat).
