Delhi greets Ibobi with protest

The Churachand protest is spreading to New Delhi with hundreds of people from Manipur lodging the night long protest at the Manipur Bhawan premises on Sunday.

Hundreds of tribal people from the restive north eastern state thronged the Manipur Bhawan premises at 5 in the evening as soon as Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh arrived in it forcing him to remain inside the room for the night.

With banners and festooned in their hands, the protestors shouted slogans raising their demands for separate administration for the hills people, withdrawal of the controversial bills apart from action against the police personal who killed nine protestors during the recent orgy of violence in Churachandpur.

An influential student body in Arunachal Pradesh threatened to take the resort of China in protest against the Supreme Court’s recent judgment for citizenship to the Chakma-Hajong refugees.  Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday, AAPSU leader Gumjum Haider said that they would have no option but to take help of foreign country for intervention at a time when China has been claiming the north eastern state.The apex court last month asked the government to grant citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees who had been rehabilitated in the state in 1964-69 after they fled their homes in Bangladesh.

Students from Arunachal Pradesh hit the streets the New Delhi on Friday in protest against the Supreme Court's judgment granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees from Bangladesh living in the north eastern state.Holding placards in their hands, hundreds joined the protest organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union while some others shouting slogans not to make the state a dumping ground of refugees.Protesters told Assam Times that they have been tolerating injustice for years. “China repeatedly claims Arunachal Pradesh. Noted Satriya dance performer Pushpa Bhuyan passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. She was 78. The north east governors are holding a conference in New Delhi to finalize the Act East policy. Assam and Nagaland governor PB Acharya aso also attending the conference organized by the ministry of external affairs. Minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj opened the conference where she stressed better diplomatic relations with the neighbours.JP Rajkhowa attedned the conference along with other north eastern governors. In his speech DoNER minister Jitendra Singh stressed proper utilization of the central funds in the entire region.  
The Delhi government is preparing to set up the North East Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in the national capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal discussed it with Assam and Nagaland Governor P B Acharya in New Delhi on Tuesday. The membership issue was figured in the discussion at the Nagaland House. Kejriwal announced the North East India Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in August to handle issues confronting the people from the north eastern region. 
The Supreme Court has rejected a plea for Central observers to monitor the verification process of NRC application. A division bench of the Court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohington Fali Nariman rejected the plea by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and authorised NRC nodal officer Prateek Hajela to use the gazetted officials in the process if need be. The court, however, asked Hajela to submit a report on the work completed so far covering the verification of application forms, aims and objectives, field verification reports.
