Parties, organizations demand Gogoi's resignation

A day after CBI arrested education minister Ripun Bora charging him with trying to bribe one of its official, Opposition and organization have demanded resignation of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi owning up the moral responsibility.

The main Opposition Asom Gana Parishad took out a procession to the Rajbhawan demanding Gogoi's resignation and also seeking arrest of other tainted ministers of the Gogoi Cabinet. The leaders in the procession called it a block spot on the state's education and demanded exemplary punishment for the bribery minister. The AGP leaders who were participating in the procession tom the Rajbhawan demanded that CBI probe should also be ordered on the misdeeds of Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The main Opposition party said the Gogoi government has no moral rights to continue in power. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, AGP president Brindabon Goswami said more tainted ministers are still there in the Gogoi cabinet and that . if an impartial probe is ordered Mr Gogoi himself will be in big trouble. AGP will soon approach the ethics committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly seeking the disqualification of the axed education minister Ripun Bora.

According to AGP general secretary, the Gogoi cabinet has a minister who is behind the murder of Manabendra Sarma. He said the Chief Minister works at his instance adding that CBI also should probe into it.

A delegation of the party on Wednesday called on Assam Governor Lt general (retd) Ajoy Singh at the Rajbhawan and urged him to dismiss the Gogoi government. They also said the Chief Minister cannot wash off his hands merely by axing Ripun Bora. The party will further stage a statewide protest demanding the dismissal of the Tarun Gogoi Government.

Former Assam Assembly Speaker Ganesh Kutum has called Assam police role a dubious one while it was dealing with the Danial murder case. Kutum was the first to accuse Ripun Bora of playing the main role in the Danial murder.
