Modi's effigy burnt

Members from Sadou Assam Goria Maria Deshi Jatiya Parsishad protested the decision of the union government to accord citizenship right to Hindu migrants from Bangladesh and burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Baruapara in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. 

The parishad strongly objected and demanded early stop of decision to grant entry and stay right to Hindu migrants in Assam from Bangladesh.

The illegal migrants of Bangladesh irrespective of religion should be sent back to their country. There is no place for Hindu Bangladeshi or Muslim Bangladeshi in Assam.

Hagrama condoles

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary expressed his deep sorrow over demise of senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily Chino Basumatary at a private hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday.   'Media fraternity lost a dedicated journalist in the state with death of Basumatary', Mohilary said.  Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLB Pramila Rani Brahma have also expressed their deepest shock over demise of Chino, who had played eye opener of Bodo newspaper in the region.  'The Bodo society as well as whole state lost great dedicated journalist, which has become unfulfilled situation in the state', the leaders added.   

Press Club members paid homage to Chino

Journalist fraternity and Kokrajhar Press Club paid rich floral tribute at press club premises to senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily late Chino Basumatary, who passed away today at International Hospital, Guwahati after prolong ailing.  Ajit Kumar Basumatary, president of the club hoisted organizational flag in half respecting to Basumatary. Monalisa Sarma, president of Kokrajhar district committee of JUA paid floral tribute.  Press Club expressed deep sorrow over untimely demise of late Basumatary and prayed for eternal peace of his soul.   

Veteran journalist Chino Basumatary no more

It is shock news that a torch bearer of journalism in Lower Assam’s Bodoland region and senior journalist and Editor of Bodosa,a daily newspaper published from Kokrajhar Chino Basumatary passes away this morning at 9 AM at a private Nursing Home in Guwahati. Basumatary, was a one of senior most journalist of Lower Assam’s Bodoland region, started his career as editor in Aronai, a fortnight news paper in Bodo language in 1986, hold editorship and proprietor of Bodosa weekly from 1991 to 2005 and then he soldiered editorship of upgraded Bodosa Daily newspaper from 2006 to till his death.  Basumatary born in 1953 at Kashikotra of Chirang district and then involved with journalism...

Pratima Barua Pandey anniv

The 13 death anniversary of folk artist Pratima Barua Pandey was observed today at Milan Bazar in Kokrajhar with a day long various programmes along with rest of the state,. As per the programme, daughter of the late singer Aloka Barua Pandey paid floral at the portrait of  the late singer, who is renowned exponent of Goalparia folk songs.

Deer horn recovered

Sasastra Seema Bal (SSB) posted along the Indo-Bhutan border at Dholkola and Tukribasti under Haltugaon forest division recovered a Deer horn in an operation conducted on Sunday in Kokrajhar district.  SSB jawans from 16th Battalion (Bn) conducted an operation against poacher and smuggler inside deep forest area of the Haltugaon division and accordingly managed to recovery of a Deer horn, besides destroying of some objectionable goods that used by poachers in the operation. KLO observed martyrs day

AASU lighted candles

The All Assam Students Union(AASU), Kokrajhar district unit along with rest of the state, marking the 99th foundation day of the Assam Chatra Sanmilon (Now called AASU) lighted 99 pieces of candles on Friday evening at Children Park in Kokrajhar. The students union activists and publics participated the lighting programme and recalled the foundation of the then sanmilon functionaries,which was founded on December 25 in 1916 at Latasil ground in Guwahati with Rasraj Lakhminath Bezbaruah as Chairman.The students union will celebrate centenary next year 2016 with yearlong programme scheduled,told Nabajyoti Roy,secretary of the AASU in Kokrajhar.

ATM vandalized

Suspected money looter vandalised an ATM along the JD Road near Mijingk Nwgwr early hours this morning in Kokrajhar town. According to police, a group of four-five persons came on a Bolero vehicle vandalised an ATM around 3 AM trying to snatch money of the ATM,but failed to take away money following strong police patrolling in the town whole night.The An investigation has started into incident and involved culprits would be booked in early manner, said a senior police officer in Kokrajhar. 

District administration on road alerts

Chirang district administration has been put alerts the police and all concern departments to make accident free and check all road related situated in the district. In a significant move to control road accidents in the district, the Chirang deputy commissioner Rupak Kumar Mazumdar has put alert recently the police and other concerned departments. It is to be stated that  there have been regular accidents, some fatal, on the newly constructed NH-31(C) at certain vulnerable spots like Dhaligaon, Palashbari, Sidli and Kashikotra which he felt necessity of urgent attention of the officers entrusted for traffic control.
