NDFB-S rebels arrested, ammunition recovered

Two  senior NDFB-S rebels, were arrested from two separate places in Chirang district on Wednesday. Talking to Assam Times at Kajalgaon in Chirang on Wednesday, BTAD IGP Dr. LR Bishnoi told that a search operation was conducted in the morning around 5am to 9 am where Biron Narzary alias N  Bapeibai, 29, was arrested from Patabari jungle area under Amguri police station. He is from Khungring Hantupara under Runikhata.

Narzary is ex-PSO of most wanted NDFB-S G  Bidai from the 41 batch of the outfit trained in Myanmar, Bishnoi said. 

He said one HK-33 Rifles,  a magazine of HK 33 rifles and 228 rounds ammunition of HK 33 rifles and a mobile handset were recovered following his arrest.

His arrest led to the arrest of Swmkwr Basumatary  alias B Sukao, 23, the self-styled Lance Corporal of the rebel group from Sishubari area in the district. He  is also a Myanmar trained cadre from the 35 batch and from Koilamoila Norbidangi under Amguri police station in the district.

His arrest resulted in the recovery of one 7.65 pistol with a magazine, 2 rounds live ammunition of 7..65 pistol, 212 rounds live ammunition of AK series rifles, 25 live ammunition of .303 rifles and four HE 36 grenade with detonator, Bishnoi said.

The two rebels were involved in the 23rd December last Adivasi carnage at Lungsung Reserve forest in Kokrajhar district. They were also directly involved in the kidnapping of two Bhutanese citizens in September 2002 along the Indo-Bhutan border, he said.

Swmkwr Basumatary was in the group involved in the killing of school girl Priya Basumatary in Chirang last year.

15 NDFB-S rebel were killed, 207 cadre arrested, and huge cache of arms and ammunitions recovered. Total 142 over ground workers of NDFB-S arrested,  he said.
