The city based media persons today remembered senior journalist Hiten Mahanta, who has passed away on 29 August 2015 in GNRC hospital, in a meeting held at Guwahati Press Club. Paying tributes to the honest, brave and impartial journalist, the journalists along with Mahanta’s well-wishers termed him as one of the committed journalists of the State.
The attending journalists also decided to publish a book with articles on Mahanta’s life and activities. They also resolved to launch an annual award in Mahanta’s memory. The participants including Mahanta’s younger brother Sailen Mahanta, senior journalists Hemanta Barman, Ranen Kumar Goswami, DN Singh, Nava Thakuria, Khagen Kalita, Pranabjit Doloi, Bipul Sarma, Keshab Kalita with educationist Jagadindra Raichoudhury, Divas Phukan, Jayanta Gogoi etc paid homage to the departed soul.
The meeting expressed gratitude to everyone who extended financial supports to Mahanta’s family in his prolonged treatment including Ajmal Foundation and journalist Manoj Kumar Goswami. Moreover it offered special thanks to GNRC hospital chief Dr NC Bora for extensive rebates over the treatment cost of Mahanta.
