Congress ready for Tiwa council

Congress is preparing to form the Tiwa Autonomous Council a week after the ruling party’s victory in 15 out of 31 seats in the polls.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday night discussed the council formation with senior cabinet colleagues and leaders. He suggested the party leaders to expedite the process to form the Tiwa autonomous body covering Nagaon and Morigaon districts.

Ministers Rockybul Hussain, Chandan Sarkar, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Ajit Singh Sarat Borkotoky, Dr Bhumidhar Barman attended the meeting along with MLAs Amiya Gogoi, Habul Chakrabarty and others.

The TMC Assam unit has opposed the draft delimitation proposal published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday evening. The proposal is prepared based on the 2001 census, which the TMC claims is not correct as there has been a change in the population pattern in the state.
