The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

Jailed Akhil asked to move GMCH

A sessions court in Guwahati remanded Akhil Gogoi to judicial custody after the KMSS president was produced before it in connection with a case registered at the Khetri police station.The court, however, asked the authorities to ensure best medical treatment for Gogoi at GMCH who has been suffering from back pain for the last couple of days.Several KMSS activists were detained by police as they staged dharna in front of the session court premises demanding immediate release of the KMSS president.

Bora fires challenge to NDFB-S

Tezpur Congress candidate Bhupen Bora on Thursday dared NDFB-S to bid farewell to arms as the people in large number defied their bandh call in Tezpur.Talking to reporters in Biswanath Chariali, Bora said that defying the 12 bandh call, the Congress workers are pouring in to attend Rahul Gandhi’s poll rally.“The rally is going to a huge one. Party workers are pouring in. Let NDFB-S lay down arms as people are defying the bandh call,” said Bora.The 12 hour bandh call seems to have evoked mixed response on Thursday. Barring some tiny pockets or the Bodo dominated areas, the bandh has hardly any impact in the entire district.   

3 KPLT militants held

Security forces seem to have stepped up offensive against KPLT militants in Karbi Anglong district a day after a minor boy sustained injury in the cross fire at Howraghat.According to information, during a combing operation army and CRPF jawans arrested three militants of the Karbi outfit from Mantilla area in the wee hours. Apart from the trio, security forces have captured a KPLT linkman from the area.  A minor boy sustained serious injury at an incident of cross fire between KPLT militants and security forces in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.

Respite for 2 KMSS leaders

In a huge respite for KMSS, Hareswar Kalita and Nurul Ali have come out of the Guwahati Central jail on Thursday a day after the Guwahati High Court granted bail to both of them.Both Kalita and Ali procured bail on Wednesday nearly a month after police arrested them from their residence in connection with the sensational self immolation case in Dispur.

Akhil to be produced in CJM court

Guwahati police are all set to produce Akhil Gogoi before the CJM court on Thursday.According to information, the KMSS president would be produced before the court in the afternoon after the expiry of 14 days custody in the connection with three cases.Tight security is in place at the Kamrup CJM court where KMSS activists are set to stage dharna on Gogoi’s way to the court.

No impact of NDFB-S bandh in Sonitpur

A 12 hour Sonitpur bandh seems to have evoked hardly any response in the district on Monday.Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices are running as usual in the entire district even after NDFB-S-sponsored bandh call from 5 in the morning to 5 in the evening.Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.Security forces are guarding the vital roads and bridges where hundreds of buses are carrying people to a rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra in Biswanath Chariali where the Congress vice president will campaign on behalf of Bora at 1-30 in the afternoon.

Brisk preparations have reached its final stage to hold two huge poll rallies by Rahul Rahul Gandhi Monday.The AICC vice president will land at the Dibrugarh airport at 1 in the afternoon. Minor boy injured in cross firing

A minor boy sustained serious injury at an incident of cross fire between KPLT militants and security forces in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.The incident took place in the evening at Borbeel area near Howraghat when an army troop was locked in an encounter with KPLT militants.A minor boy sustained serious injury in the two hour long cross firing from both sides. The Karbi militants managed to flee from the spot.Identified as Tenson, the 12 year old boy was shifted to the hospital.
