Flood of woes in Manipur

Many parts of Manipur are still reeling under waters bringing brimful misery for lakhs of people in the north eastern state.

The water level is receding marginally. But the level of woes has been increasing on every passing day. Roads and bridges in the affected areas stand completely ravaged. Crops in hundreds of hectares have been damaged. Thousands of people are still marooned in the relief camps. Surface communication will not be restored at least in this month.     

Fear of fresh landslide is likely to recur if the rain refuses to halt. “The scene is unprecedented. It may be the fatal impact of climate change. The situation can turn more worse,”say experts.

At least 24 people were buried alive when a huge hillock slipped on the houses they lived in recently sending shockwave across the nation. Yet another person died while  he was crossing a dilapidated bridge.

The refugees have alleged lack of basic amenities in the relief camps. “Foods are insufficient and clothes are not available for all homeless people,” a section of refugees told Assam Times.

Tiger Carcass Found in Kaziranga National Park

The body of a tiger was discovered in the Horonbali Chapori area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, on Monday. Government Extends AFSPA in Manipur Amidst Ethnic Clashes
