Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Mutocks along with two others are likely to get ST status.
The good news for the six communities has come from the Centre when the six ethnic communityleaders hunkered down with Union tribal affairs minister Juel Ornam in New Delhi on Thursday.
Flanked by sports minister Sarbabanda Sonowal, Ornam said the Centre will have to change the modalities in the soon to be held cabinet meeting.
After the seal of approval from the cabinet, the modalities would be ready. It would take two or three months to complete the entire proceedings.
Later the delegation talked to union home minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence.
The move assumed significance despite the escalating protest of the existing ST people.

The other two are tea tribes and Sutiya not chutia. Ahom , Koch and Sutiya were ruling class of Assam during medievel period. Next time please name the ''other two'' as sentiments are related to it.

Kokrajhar: A sudden shortage of Indian Postal Order (IPO) has been causing immense inconvenience for many people in Kokrajhar also along with many other places. Hundreds of people were seen waiting in queue in front of the post offices for IPO required for many official and personal purposes. The worst affected are the job applicants since the last date is nearing. “We are disappointed. We have been waiting for IPO since morning. But of no avail. GUWAHATI: Three minor boys met watery grave as they were playing in the outskirt of Guwahati sending a huge shockwave across the state on Wednesday. Kokrajhar: National Democrtaic Front of Boroland-Progressive(NDFB-P) has strongly criticized Kiren Rijiju two days after the Union minister of home spoke of differences among the surrendered rebels. Kokrajhar: The BTC authority has suspended principal in-charge of Ramfalbil HS school Susil Kumar Basumatary for alleged involvement in the mid day meal and bicycle distribution scam. Basumatary received the order of his immediate suspension on Tuesday charging him with deliberately doing anomalies in the distribution of bicycles for the students. 'Basumatary has been involved with irregularities in implementation of MDM and some other school functions as prescribed from the concern department.
