Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said Assam has developed on all fronts. In his address at the anniversary function at Sarusajai function on Saturday, Gogoi said that the state now ranks in third position in the human resources development index. He said the state has set record the food grain production during his regime and that in health, education sectors also the state has changed its face.
Amid total and peaceful bandh the Tarun Gogoi government on Saturday observed its first anniversary of the third term where Congress president Sonia Gandhi praised the Chief minister. A 27 years old youth was found dead at Landakhunda village, bordering Assam-Meghalaya, under Dhupdhara police station in Goalpara district early in the morning today. The youth was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as two marks of bullet holes on his chest. The body was found lying on a village road with both of his hands were tightened with his own shirt. National Investigation Agency got remand of Maoist leader Indranil Chandra, alias Ajay Das for seven days after he was produced before a special court in Guwahati on Wednesday. Chandra, who heads Maoist offensive in Assam, was brought to Guwahati from Kolkata where he was recently arrested. He was produced in a NIA designated court in Guwahati and remanded to seven days of NIA custody. Chandra, hailing from Burdwan district of West Bengal, had visited the state several times to coordinate with the local Maoist cadres. He had visited several areas in the state, including lower Assam, and held several meetings.
