3 held for witch-hunting

Police arrested three persons in witch-hunt related case in remote  Mainaopur village under Bishmuri police outpost in  Kokrajhar district.

According to police, some people in the village caught and tied Bishor Brahma (50) with a rope and took him to a local school in the village when had gone to his village Mainaopur, where his family lives and physically assaulted him.

Police said Bishor Brahma was forced out of the village 4 years back after accusing him of practising black magic. He has been living in Kokrajhar all these years, though his family continues to live in the village.

Yesterday he had gone to his village home for some personnel work when he was caught and tied at the school compound with a rope for returning to his village.

Police said they got information about the incident and acted promptly and rescued the person around 10.45 pm last night .

Police said three persons - Raju Basumatary, Rabha Brahma and Karuna Basumatary, were arrested and were forwarded to judicial custody.  

The family member have filed FIR with the police today.

It is to be mention that despite various organsiations and govt trying to eridict the social evil,  witch-hunting continues to hunts in many parts of the state claiming may lives. It is to be mention that the Assam government recently submitted an anti-witch hunt draft legislation to check the menace. The anti-witchhunt draft bill proposes punishment from three years to life imprisonment.

A census technique workshop on Golden Langur was organised by Kokrajhar Wildlife division in association with Primate Research centre NE India at Choraikola in Kokrajhar on Tuesday. Hospital wall kills boy

A seven-years-old boy was succumbed to hospital following wall collapsed at Ghoskata Korida Madati sub-centre today in Kokrajhar district. According to family source, the boy identified as Bhim Brahma, son  of Bircharan Brahma of Korida Madati village was received serious injuries following wall collapsed along the newly constructed wall at Korida Madati sub-centre  this afternoon around 1 pm when he was playing with his friends. NDFB(S) cadre killed

Link man arrested

Security forces from Police and Army nabbed a link man of NDFB-Songbijit faction in a joint operation from Mainaguri under Serfanguri PS in Kokrajhar district on Saturday.  The link man was identified as Ila Narzary of Belgudi village. Health camp at Saralpara

A total of 640 patients from greater Saralpara thronged the medical and awareness camp to receive medical check-up on Saturday along the Indo-Bhutan border of Kokrajhar district, was organized by Army unit of Red Horns Division. NSLA cadre arrested

Security forces belonging to police and army apprehended a senior cadre of National Santhali Liberation Army (NSLA) in a joint operation launched today at Shiyalmari area under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar. The arrested cadre was identified as Enverest Tudu alias Jambua of Srirampur. He was involved with extortion,terrorist activites in the region. Police arrested two gang of Bike lifter from Gutipara area under Bagribari police station in Kokrajhar district today.
