Tiwa organisations block NH 37
Movement of vehicles on National Highway-37 were completely stopped for over half-an-hour starting from 11.30 a.m today when the All Tiwa Students’ Union and several of its sister organizations in support of their various demands including demand for inclusion of the Tiwa Autonomous areas in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and demand for holding election of Tiwa village council at the earliest , blocked the highway.
Nearly three hundred people and ATSU activists blockade the Highway standing on the middle of the road shouting slogans against the state government.
Higher officials of the Nagaon district administration as well as top police officers and CRPF personnel rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Later, the organizations submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, Minister of Welfare of Plains Tribes and Backward Classes and Election Commissioner of Assam through the SDO, Nagaon circle Goauri Sankar Das , and Raha Circle officer Pallabi Kachary.
