Forest officials attacked

Despite a set of strictures timber smugglers are still active in the BTAD forest areas. Four forest officials sustained injury when timber smugglers attacked them at Jharbari in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. The incident of attack took place in the wee hours where a huge group of teak smugglers targeted Jharbari Ranger Manik Brahma along with three of his assistants. Others include Rajendra Muchahary, Prahlad Borgoyary and Amio Muchahary. Armed with sharp weapons and sticks, the smugglers numbering around 35-40 started beating up the forest officials as they spotted them travelling on Zypsi and a Tata mobile van which were also damaged. Eight other officials, however, managed to escape the attack.
