Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Senior political leader T Biren Singh took oath as Manipur Chief minister at a function in Imphal on Wednesday. Governor Dr Najma Heptulla administered him the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhawan in presence of many BJP leaders.BJP president Amit Shah could not attend the function because of unavoidable reasons. Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, senior leader Ram Madhab also attended the ceremony.Despite 21 seats, BJP formed the government with the support of NPP, NPF, TMC and the lone independent candidate.
Amid an escalating protest in Assam over an Islamic fatwa in Hojai, local Muslim clerics denied any diktat against Nahid Afrid.Talking to Assam Times over telephone from Hojai, Muslim leaders said that no where in the leaflet they have asked Nahid to refrain from any performance.According to them, one after another cultural functions have been disrupting quietness in the area. Dozens of Islamic outfits served a diktat against stage performance by Muslim girls and women triggering huge statewide protest a couple of days ahead of a function in Hojai where Nahid Afrin is invited.In its fatwa, these organization without naming Nahid, said that stage performance by girls and women is contrary to Islamic tradition which should remain in force.Many singers, parties, organizations and individuals have openly come out opposing the diktat saying that these outfits should be rein in to avoid the impending backlash.The budding talent fell disappointed as soon as she came to know the diktat as she was busy for her performance at Udali in Hojai.

Veteran politician and BJP leader N Biren Singh is taking oath as Manipur chief minister on Wednesday. Governor Dr Najma Heptulla will administer him the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony at 1 in the afternoon. Singh is expected to take oath along with six others who include NPP and NPF legislators. Senior BJP leaders Prakash Javadekar, Ram Madhab, Himanta Biswa Sarma are expected to attend the ceremony at the Raj Bhawan. Singh was elected as the BJP legislative body leaders on Monday after the party legislators formally staked claims to form the government.
In yet another incident that sends shockwaves across Meghalaya border, 3 people were burnt alive when an oil tanker exploded on Tuesday. The incident took place in Ri Bhoi district in the afternoon where the Shillong bound oil tanker from Shillong overturned before exploding with a huge sound.
The Dhemaji district administration has relaxed curfew in the restive Silapathar area for a couple of hours. According to information, curfew would be in force from dusk to down.
