Amid utter confusion over the counter insurgency operation in Myanmar, army accused the rebel outfits of spreading rumours to boost their sagging morale.

In a statement on Wednesday, army claimed to have decimated NDFB (Songbijit), ULFA (Anti-Talk) and KLO during the recent Myanmar operation.
Army observed that a section of the insurgents have been resorting to media to spread the rumour.

Army released the statement a day after NDFB(S) claimed to have killed armymen in an ambush on a boat near Manas.
According to army, the Army troops on a search mission in boats in Manas area had found a militant camp near the bank of a water body and were moving towards it.

But the sentry of the camp spotted them and fired a shot to warn other militants. The armymen opened fire but militants managed to flee taking advantage of the difficult terrain and thick forest.
A loaded pistol, 5.56 mm magazine filled with ammunition, one grenade, about 500 kg of ration and tarpaulins were found in the camp.

Paresh Baruah’s appeal to media

ULFA boss Paresh Baruah appealed to media not to call the outfit after him.In a statement sent to media on Sunday, Baruah said that the anti-talk faction is usually referred to in the media as the Paresh Baruah-led faction after the group led by Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa came overground to hold talks with the government to resolve the issue. Sensation in Bagsa: 4 killed

Sensation prevails in Bagsa district of Assam on Sunday a day after four teenagers were killed in Borbori area forcing police to step up operation to nab the culprits.The incident took place at Geruwa Aashram village on Saturday midnight when unidentified miscreants sprung upon the four youths with sharp weapons. Nagaland polling station at Borhollah, Gelekey

Guwahati put on high alert

The Assam Secretariat and other offices have been declared as a protected area. The order was issued by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri, who directed that none except bonafide residents and public servants of the secretariat and other offices could enter the area without prior permission. According to an official statement, the working hours at the secretariat and all government offices on all working days would be from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm without break from March one to September 30, 2013.

Blast rocks Sonitpur railway station

A grenade explosion rocked Belshri railway station in Sonitpur district on Friday. But there was no report of any injury. According to police, a five-member group of unidentified persons on motorcycles lobbed two grenades at a paddy field at Belshri under Misamari Police station at around 3.30 in the afternoon. A grenade went off at an open space near the railway station. Another unexploded grenade was also recovered from a well in the area by the local people. Then the bikers fled towards Hugrajuli, the sources said adding, a search operation was launched to track them out.

CM for early implementation of schemes

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed Health and Family Welfare, Labour and Employment and Social Welfare departments to expedite implementation of the social security schemes. 5 killed in Palashbai accident

At least five persons were killed when a the vehicle carrying them collided head on in a dumper Palashbari area in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The shocking accident took place in the afternoon at Bhagawatipara where a women died on the spot. Four others succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. The deceased were identified as Amulya Kalita, Ratan Kalita, Prafulla Mahanta, Putul Kumari and Damayanti Sarma.
