At least four persons died and over 20 others sustained serious injury at a road accident in Sonitpur district on Monday.
The incident took place at Borgang near Bihali in the wee hours where a Tata Magic vehicle carrying over 25 people from a function at Bharakuli was on its way to Bedeti.
As the vehicle reached Borgang, it suddenly collided head on a truck which was coming from the opposite direction amid incessent rains.
Local residents, who came out in large number found it difficult to rescue the passengers from the mangled vehicle because of the incessant rains.
Two of the deceased were identified as Keshab Tati, Parasuram Goala. Twenty others who sustained serious injury have been battling for life at the Biswanath Chariali Hospital.

The Assam Secretariat and other offices have been declared as a protected area. The order was issued by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri, who directed that none except bonafide residents and public servants of the secretariat and other offices could enter the area without prior permission. A grenade explosion rocked Belshri railway station in Sonitpur district on Friday. But there was no report of any injury. According to police, a five-member group of unidentified persons on motorcycles lobbed two grenades at a paddy field at Belshri under Misamari Police station at around 3.30 in the afternoon. At least five persons were killed when a the vehicle carrying them collided head on in a dumper Palashbari area in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The shocking accident took place in the afternoon at Bhagawatipara where a women died on the spot. Four others succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. The deceased were identified as Amulya Kalita, Ratan Kalita, Prafulla Mahanta, Putul Kumari and Damayanti Sarma.
