Flood waters in Guwahati have been receding following the let-up in the rains. But the low lying areas in the city are still wallowing in mud waters on Tuesday.
The worst affect areas are Lachitnagar, Chandmari, Nabin Nagar and Lachitnagar areas which where rainwaters wreaked havoc after the heavy downpour Sunday night.
“We jumped into the action. We have proved beyond doubt that what we have been doing would benefit us in the long run. This time the city areas got out of the blues within a few hours, “ said district administration officials.
“We have no option left out but to co exist with rain waters. Nobody is there to share our plights. During the last ten years we only got assurance,” said Pritom Saikia from Anil Nagar.
Rekha Das, a housewife from Nabin Nagar told Assam Times that they have lost faith on the authorities who have done precious little to help us get rid of the plight.
“Today we are clearing our houses of the rainwaters but nobody knows when these will again spill,” said the housewife.
All schools in the areas have been submerged forcing the authorities to close them for four days.
