Over 65 media persons with their spouses joined in a fresh Hepatitis B vaccination camp organized by Dispur Hospital at Guwahati Press Club on 11 May 2015. The camp started at 11 am and continued till 1 pm.
According to the experts, the Hepatitis B virus affects the human liver and may cause liver cancer and liver cirrhosis. It can cause both acute and chronic infections. It is transmitted through blood and infected bodily fluids. Statistics reveal that over 750,000 people die of hepatitis B each year in the world.
The second (and final) dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine will be given on 11 June 2015 at the press club starting from 11 am (till 1 pm), which is advised necessary for completion of the vaccination process.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s immortal songs in bamboo books are released at Bokota Na-Nath Gaon, Sivasagar district on January 5. These 14 bamboo books are written by renowned sculptor Mohon Saikia. With these books Saikia has completed 45 bamboo books.
The book-release function was presided by Priyabor Konwer, President of Sivasagar district Tai Sahitya Sabha. President's Innovation Award Winner Uddhab Bharali, Retired Director of All India Radia, Dibrugarh, Hiren Gohain and renown musician Biren Phukon were also present at the event.
Former director general of police Shankar Baruah committed suicide on Wednesday. Baruah came home and within half an hour he went to the terrace and shot himself with his pistol revolver. Then he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital at around 12 noon. But only to be declared brought dead there.
He was admitted to Down Town hospital last week after he complained of heart problems and was released from there on Wednesday morning. His body has been sent for postmorten.
The incident took place after his name hit media headlines in the Saradha scam where he was alleged to have received protection money from the chit fund.
CBI had conducted raids on his house on August 27 in connection with the multicrore rupees ponzi scheme scam.
