Merger of regional forces seemed to be taken U-turn

The May 5, which was called to be a red letter day in the history of regional politics in the state of Assam when almost all the leaders after having a meet with eleven member committee and agreed to be unified in one single regional party is seemed to be clouded with doubt as a section of AGP influential leaders in second in line have started expressing their view against complete merger but like to test the broad based alliance just like UPA and NDA. Because the adaptation of resolution in favour of unification in the eleven member committee meeting with other regional party representative would not be final. As this committee, as decided earlier, would submit its report to the State Executive Committee and after discussion the State Executive will go before the State general body of the party and then only final picture would emerge.Till that one has to be waited. So till to the day there is nothing to be elated for any one. Moreover some leaders of AGP are of the view that while taking any final decision the reaction of AASU leaders have to be taken into consideration. It may be mentioned that AASU leaders warned against the induction of former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta into the AGP fold and termed him as ‘Jati Drohi’. Although the number of anti-merger members are a few, yet in view of the AASU’s opposition they are trying to pursue the pro-merger members to rethink over the induction of Mahanta into the party. Even one of the senior members of the 11-member unification committee was quoted to have said in a local language news papers that it would not be wise to ignore the AASU’s stand on Mahanta’s fate.
